Warm words on Tripadvisor
Argyro from Greece wrote a great review about us on Tripadvisor Thank you Argyro – We highly appreciate your kind words.
We just returned from a trip of a life! Guys, you must really visit Iceland to believe it! We did a self-drive tour for 10 days on May because it is a shoulder period and prices are much better than in summer. And we were right! The weather was great, wherever we went there was no difficulty. Our trip was organized by Jon Gunnar from www.icelandunlimited.is , I cannot really recommend this company enough! We thought we were talking to a friend and not just being customers! Superb serv
ice, even when the volcano Grimsvotn errupted and we had to change completely our plans! At that time, we were staying at Vik and our next destination was Skaftafell, but it was impossible to go there due to the erruption. This was not a problem for Jon, as he managed to book for us fantastic hotels from the West to the North and change our route! We had continuous communication via e-mail (all the hotels in Iceland have computers with free Internet, so that was not a problem) and he was always answering our questions quickly and with details (and believe me, I had many questions!)!
Also, I have to say that Iceland is not so dreadful expensive, the gasoline costs 1.44 euros/litre (in greece is almost 1.75 euros/litre), coffee is cheaper than Greece and if you eat at the N1 Gas Stations as we did, you save a lot of money for activities! N1 has very nice soups with free re-fills! We did many hikes and activites, such like The White Night Hike with Goecco, Blue Ice Adventure glacier Hike at Solheimajokull Glacier with Mountain Guides, snorkel at Silfra with Dive.is, Whale watching tour at Husavik! Everything was fabulous!
All Icelanders are honest and nice people, they wanted to chat with us and I cannot imagine a safer country than Iceland! Please keep it like this!
Takk fyrir Jon Gunnar!
-maybe we will need your services at the future, because we didn’ t manage to see puffins, Jokulsarlon and Southeast;) !!!-”

coordinators, but hands-down Jon Gunnar Benjaminsson and Iceland Unlimited http://www.icelandunlimited.is/ were the absolute best. I was in Iceland for 3 weeks, and really was clueless as to what I wished to do in Iceland after my volunteer stint was finished. I posted questions on this site as to fishing options and received a reply from Jon and could just sense that this guy would be a good person to contact personally to see if he also had ideas as to where to stay, how to travel around Iceland etc. It was then that he mentioned he owned Iceland Unlimited and that was exactly what his company did.
Well, Jon handled everything.. the auto rental, the itinerary, the farmhouse & hotel stays… I mean everything! He even put me in touch with personal friends up in northern Iceland and arranged with them for me to fish on their property…. Found me the most charming farmhouse stays and offbeat, little known places of interest. He even preset a cell phone he gave me with his personal phone number just in case I needed any help with anything. I hear very poorly and often have trouble understanding the accents of the people.
The trip itinerary was all mapped out and I was psyched to start my trip driving from Reykjavik around the outer loop via car…. But then the volcano erupted and I could no longer be sure I’d be able to travel along my planned route. Well Jon was right on top of it and in a day he had mapped out other options. We decided I’d fly to eastern Iceland to bypass the volcano activity and Jon canceled my existing reservations, made new ones, and arranged the domestic flight and new car rental. I left it all to him… he just knew exactly the type of accommodations I would want, fit it within my budget, and candidly, I knew if he liked it, I would like it.
I’ve used tour operators in Peru, northern India, Africa, Hanoi and northern Thailand. This trip Jon Gunnar
planned for me was as interesting as any and like I said, Iceland Unlimited was by far and away the best I’ve ever used. Sometimes you just get a feel that someone knows his job, is truly committed to excellence and truly cares. This guy and this company is top shelf!”

“Five years ago, when I was planning my first trip to Iceland and doing research on how to book my vacation, my first impulse was to turn to an internationally well known travel company that I was familiar and comfortable with. I found, however, that international companies couldn’t provide the type of trip I was looking for in Iceland. Most of Iceland’s tourism is run from within Iceland. What this meant is that I had to take a leap of faith to use a previously unknown-to-me travel company within Iceland and trust that it would be money well spent. I sent inquiries to several companies and from the beginning, there was no question I’d use Jon Gunnar’s services. He was attentive, professional, knowledgeable, and pleasant to work with from the beginning. He was able to put together a trip for me that included everything from the most popular attractions such as the Golden
Circle Tour and the Blue Lagoon, to more exotic adventures such as a day tour to Kulusuk – Greenland, flights to Hofn and Akureyri for whale watching, snowmobiling on Vatnajokull glacier, and a boat trip through the icebergs of Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon. Best of all, he was able to personalize it to fit the type of luxury adventure in Iceland that we were looking for. The trip was truly spectacular, and having the local presence of Jon Gunnar made everything run seamlessly, even when weather canceled that day’s planned adventure, having Jon Gunnar right there enabled him to reschedule activities so we didn’t miss a thing. Jon Gunnar knows all the “behind the scenes” ins and outs of Icelandic tourism and was able to get us reservations at the best restaurants, picked the absolute perfect hotels around the country for our needs, and set us up with amazing guides to take us to places not found anywhere in the big corporate travel companies’ tours. I really cannot recommend Jon Gunnar and Iceland Unlimited enough. His is a completely trustworthy, professional, top notch company that will provide you with the trip of a lifetime. Or one of many trips of lifetime, as with me, my fourth trip to Iceland takes place later this month.”

“Going to Iceland was going to be an adventure and it was difficult to find information about where to go, where to stay and what to do. Jon Gunnar was contacted as a source found on the internet. From the very beginning, he provided multiple options of things to do based on what we said we wanted, he found a great hotel and even sent pictures electronically so we could make our decision and he organized all aspects of the trip. It was one of the most memorable vacations I ever had and each night Jon Gunnar checked in with us to be sure we were having a good time and were satisfied with his arrangement. We spent 8 nights in Iceland, took two flights within the country and Greenland and experienced so many new things, they are hard to list. Without the advice and caretaking that Jon provided we never would have had such a memorable experience. I would recommend his services to anyone wanting to have an Iceland experience at the five star level.”
“Many years ago, my wife and I spent a few days in Iceland en route to Norway. We were hooked up with Jon Gunnar for those days and had an active and rejuvenating break from our home in New England. We have Jon Gunnar to thank for that. He is an exceptional person to travel with; interesting, tactful, trustworthy, and professional. In fact, we had such a wonderful time with Jon Gunnar that we rejoined him and used Jon Gunnar’s own guide service, Iceland Unlimited, twice more. The second visit to Iceland was with my then 12-year old son – a father and son trip. My son still talks about it – the food, the company, the sights. The whale museum was high on his list, followed by the delicious food, and the company. Last summer, I returned to Iceland, this time with my wife, son and daughter (11-years old). It was very important to me that this trip go well, as my daughter has a language-based learning disability and the world is a difficult place for her. After a few days in Reykjavik, we ventured north to our destination of Akureri where we toured on horseback for some days and hiked around the most beautiful and amazing sights of the rich landscape that Iceland has to offer. Needless to say, our vacation this second time was fantasic! The trip went off without any problems. In fact, we all felt welcome and in particular, my daughter had a wonderful time, which in turn meant that we all had a great time. The easy-going and considerate way of our guide made that possible, as well as Jon Gunnar’s skills. I can’t say we were easy guests. We wanted to change the itinerary a few times, which was no problem for Jon Gunnar. Bottom line: I highly recommend Iceland Unlimited to anyone taking a trip to Iceland for any amount of time, and for any extent of travel.”
