coordinators, but hands-down Jon Gunnar Benjaminsson and Iceland Unlimited http://www.icelandunlimited.is/  were the absolute best.  I was in Iceland for 3 weeks, and really was clueless as to what I wished to do in Iceland after my volunteer stint was finished. I posted questions on this site as to fishing options and received a reply from Jon and could just sense that this guy would be a good person to contact personally to see if he also had ideas as to where to stay, how to travel around Iceland etc.  It was then that he mentioned he owned Iceland Unlimited and that was exactly what his company did.

Well, Jon handled everything.. the auto rental, the itinerary, the farmhouse & hotel stays… I mean everything!  He even put me in touch with personal friends up in northern Iceland and arranged with them for me to fish on their property…. Found me the most charming farmhouse stays and offbeat, little known places of interest.  He even preset a cell phone he gave me with his personal phone number just in case I needed any help with anything.   I hear very poorly and often have trouble understanding the accents of the people.

The trip itinerary was all mapped out and I was psyched to start my trip driving from Reykjavik around the outer loop via car…. But then the volcano erupted and I could no longer be sure I’d be able to travel along my planned route.  Well Jon was right on top of it and in a day he had mapped out other options.  We decided I’d fly to eastern Iceland to bypass the volcano activity and Jon canceled my existing reservations, made new ones, and arranged the domestic flight and new car rental.  I left it all to him… he just knew exactly the type of accommodations I would want, fit it within my budget, and candidly, I knew if he liked it, I would like it.

I’ve used tour operators in Peru, northern India, Africa, Hanoi and northern Thailand.  This trip Jon Gunnar 

planned for me was as interesting as any and like I said, Iceland Unlimited was by far and away the best I’ve ever used.  Sometimes you just get a feel that someone knows his job, is truly committed to excellence and truly cares.  This guy and this company is top shelf!”

“Many years ago, my wife and I spent a few days in Iceland en route to Norway.  We were hooked up with Jon Gunnar for those days and had an active and rejuvenating break from our home in New England.  We have Jon Gunnar to thank for that.  He is an exceptional person to travel with; interesting, tactful, trustworthy, and professional.  In  fact,   we had such a wonderful time with Jon Gunnar  that we rejoined him and used Jon Gunnar’s own guide service, Iceland Unlimited, twice more.  The second visit to Iceland was with my then 12-year old son – a father and son trip.  My son still talks about it – the food, the company, the sights.  The whale museum was high on his list, followed by the delicious food, and the company.  Last summer, I returned to Iceland, this time with my wife, son and daughter (11-years old).  It was very important to me that this trip go well, as my daughter has a language-based learning disability and the world is a difficult place for her.  After a few days in Reykjavik, we ventured north to our destination of Akureri where we toured on horseback for some days and hiked around the most beautiful and amazing sights of the rich landscape that Iceland has to offer.   Needless to say, our vacation this second time was fantasic!  The trip went off without any problems.  In fact, we all felt welcome and in particular, my daughter had a wonderful time, which in turn meant that we all had a great time.  The easy-going and considerate way of our guide made that possible, as well as Jon Gunnar’s skills.   I can’t say we were easy guests.  We wanted to change the itinerary a few times, which was no problem for Jon Gunnar.  Bottom line:  I highly recommend Iceland Unlimited to anyone taking a trip to Iceland for any amount of time, and for any extent of travel.”
