A 6 day skiing and northern lights winter vacation
Day 1. Arrival/Reykjavík
Welcome to Iceland! Once you arrive in Keflavik national Airport, you will be welcomed by our chauffeur who will transfer you privately to your accommodation in the heart of Reykjavik. Explore the pearls of the city in the afternoon before staying the first night in the countries capital.
Sites recommended in Reykjavik: Hallgímskirkja church, National Museum, Kolaportið flea market (open during weekends) and Laugavegur shopping street
Day 2. Akureyri
Today you take to the skies and fly to Akureyri. In Akureyri you will check into your hotel/guesthouse and then get on a bus to go to Hlíðarfjall the mountain above Akureyri. There you‘ll receive your skiing equipment and elevator pass. The mountain has 24 different skiing routes so there are plenty of options to choose from with lifts that extend to 950 meters. After a long day of skiing we recommend exploring the fantastic cuisine that Akureyri has to offer, including some amazingly fresh seafood and farm made ice cream. Stay the night in a hotel or guesthouse in Akureyri.
Day 3. Akureyri
Head back to Hlíðarfjall after breakfast and hit the slopes. In the late afternoon we recommend relaxing in the municipal pool and mingling with the locals in the hot tub. In the evening don‘t forget to wake up after midnight to view the northern lights outside the town. Stay the night in a hotel or guesthouse in Akureyri.
Day 4. Dalvík Troll Peninsula
Today you receive your rental car and drive to Dalvík and explore Böggvisstaðafjall, this mountain is renowned for it‘s free skiing and snowboarding. After skiing you drive back towards Akureyri stopping at a local microbrewery where you get a tour of the brewery by the owner Ólafur , here you will sample Kaldi pilsner brewed after Czech tradition using the finest ingredients available before returning to the capital of the north. View the northern lights in the evening. Stay the night in a hotel or guesthouse in Akureyri.
Day 5. Fly back to Reykjavík
In the morning you return your rental car at the airport and take the airplane back to Reykjavík for a full free day in the countries capital, on this day you have the option of going on a golden circle bus tour/private tour or use the opportunity to explore the cities museums, culture and cuisine. If you haven‘t had the chance to view the northern lights, make sure you take a tour in the evening to find them outside the lights of the city. Stay the night in the city center.
Day 6. Blue Lagoon Relax
What better place to relax and unwind after the tour than in the Blue Lagoon, Iceland’s renowned spa. On the way to the airport you get the chance of stopping at the blue lagoon and soak in the silica rich – chlorine free water. There‘s also the option of getting a in-water massage. After the blue lagoon you‘ll be driven to the Airport for your flight home. Have a nice journey home.
