About this activity

South Iceland Puffin Tour - Ingólfshöfði

Cape Ingólfshöfði is an isolated headland between Skaftafell and the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and in summer it is home to thousands of nesting seabirds, like puffins and great skuas. The cape is named after the first settler of Iceland Ingólfur Arnarson. He spent his first winter in Iceland on this cape.

You will reach this isolated place in a tractor-drawn hay cart. The drive takes about 25 minutes each way and you have to cross waters, marshes, and sands.

You spend 1 ½ hour around the cape and included in the tour is a 2-3 kilometer guided hike. Birds that can be seen include puffins, guillemots, fulmars, razorbills and skuas among others. Good outdoor clothing is required for this tour.

We want to note that there is no age limit for this tour. But know that you will need to be able to carry the child with you for about 2-3 km or the child should be able to walk by itself.

This Iceland puffins tour is operated by one of our reliable partners.
