Frequently asked questions
Find answers to your questions about our tours and travel experiences in Iceland and beyond.
How do you plan an Iceland trip for multiple families?
The logistics are the hardest part. Rooms need to suit different configurations at each stop, vehicles need to fit the total group, and everything has to line up along the route. Your Travel Consultant handles all of that as a single booking rather than multiple separate arrangements. You tell us the group size, the ages involved, and roughly what you want to see. We build the itinerary and coordinate everything from there. Groups of up to 20 people are manageable, and starting the planning 9 to 12 months ahead gives the best availability across accommodation and vehicles.
Is Iceland a good destination for retirees?
It's one of the better ones. The infrastructure is reliable, the roads are well-maintained, and the country's most rewarding sights don't require physical exertion to reach. Retirees tend to get more out of Iceland than most, because the trips that work best here are the ones taken slowly, with time to stop when something is worth stopping for. A self-drive itinerary with no fixed group schedule suits that kind of travel well. Your Travel Consultant will build the pace and the stops around what you want, and is reachable by phone throughout the trip if anything needs adjusting.
What can someone with limited mobility do in Iceland?
Quite a lot. Many of Iceland's most rewarding stops are reachable with a short, flat walk from a parking area. Seljalandsfoss waterfall, the Geysir geothermal area, Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, and the Mývatn Nature Baths are all manageable for people who walk unaided but prefer to avoid long distances or uneven terrain. A self-drive itinerary gives you complete control over pace and time at each stop. Your Travel Consultant will build the route around what works for you.
Is the Sky Lagoon wheelchair accessible?
The Sky Lagoon has accessible facilities and is included on IUN accessible itineraries. The specific entry process for people who use wheelchairs varies depending on your situation, so your Travel Consultant will confirm the details and arrange everything before your trip.
Can you do Iceland in a wheelchair?
Yes, and more of it than most people expect. The Blue Lagoon, Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, the Geysir area, Gullfoss, and Þingvellir National Park all have accessible paths, viewing areas, or facilities confirmed on IUN itineraries. Your Travel Consultant will be honest about which stops work well for your specific situation and which to approach differently or swap out.
Can I speak to someone before booking a senior tour of Iceland?
Yes, and we'd encourage it. Your Travel Consultant is reachable by phone and is happy to talk through options before anything is confirmed. Call us on 1 (800) 928-9747 from the US or Canada, or +354 415 0600 from anywhere else.
