Day 1: Welcome to Reykjavik

About your day

Welcome to Iceland! After you have cleared customs at Keflavík airport you will be transferred to your accommodation in Reykjavik. After you have settled in at your apartment you have some free time to explore the capital of Iceland. We highly recommend a visit the Reykjavík Zoo and Family Park. Furthermore you can also visit Hallgrímskirkja church, the music hall Harpa and the old harbor in the city center. In addition Reykjavik has also many interesting museums and we recommend to visit the Northern Lights Center, the Saga Museum or the Marine Museum. We also highly recommend the Whales of Iceland Exhibition. Spend your first night in Iceland in a comfortable apartment in the city center.

Day 2: The Golden Circle

In the morning you receive your rental car. You have a full day to explore the famous Golden Circle area. First of all visit the National Park Þingvellir which is part of a fissure zone running through Iceland, being situated on the tectonic plate boundaries of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Next up is the famous geyser “Strokkur” which erupts frequently spouting water into the air. Last but not least is the “Golden waterfall” Gullfoss the most famous waterfall in Iceland. Stay for the next 3 nights in a cottage in the Golden Circle area. Chances are high to see Northern Lights in the evening.

About your day

Today you will have a free day in the countryside. We highly recommend visiting one of the charming swimming pools in the area where you can relax in the hot tubs and the kids can enjoy the water slides. We especially recommend the one in the small community in Borg or the one in the small town of Selfoss. Other options are also the Fontana Spa in Laugarvatn and the Secret Lagoon in Fluðir which is actually the oldest swimming pool in Iceland. In addition, we also recommend visiting the Wildlife Museum in Stokkseyri or the country farm Vorsabær II where you can get in contact with the farm animals and the kids can go horse riding. Chances are high to see Northern Lights in the evening.

Day 4: South Coast and Waterfalls

Today you will explore the beautiful South coast of Iceland. Highlights of the day will be definitely the charming waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss. Furthermore you will also visit Vík where we recommend a stop at the black beaches. Enjoy the fantastic views of the Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar rock formations. You also have the opportunity to join a guided glacier walk (minimum age 10) or a super jeep tour on Mýrdalsjökull (optional). In the afternoon we recommend that you visit the swimming pool in Hella on your way back to your cottage. Enjoy your last evening in the cottage and do not forget to look for the magical Northern Lights.

Day 5: Back to Reykjavik

About your day

Today you return to Reykjavík. You can drive straight to the city and enjoy a full free day. You could go shopping or sightseeing, explore the attractions you did not have time for on your first day in Reykjavík or you could visit one of many outdoor swimming pools. In the small town of Hveragerdi, you will find an exhibition about a big earthquake which struck the South of Iceland in 2008. We also recommend you visit the Geothermal Energy Exhibition in Hellisheidi. There you can learn how geothermal energy is harnessed in a sustainable manner in Iceland. Afterwards continue to Reykjavík, drop-off your rental car and stay the night in a comfortable apartment in the center.

It is time to return home after some wonderful days in Iceland. Transfer from your apartment in Reykjavik to Keflavík International Airport. When you have submitted your booking and personal details through icelandunlimited.is a travel consultant will view the booking. They will crosscheck your booking and send you confirmation within 48 hours. Your credit card will be charged with a 20% deposit at that time. If our travel consultant is unable to obtain confirmation then an alternative will be offered. If you do not accept the alternative or Iceland Unlimited is not able to offer you an alternative, no charge will be made on your credit card. When your booking has been confirmed and your credit card has been charged, Iceland Unlimited will issue vouchers for your travel arrangements. Travel documents will not be delivered until full payment has been made. It’s optional whether we post your travel documents or arrange for you to pick them up on arrival to your holiday destination.

How far in advance should I book?

All travel arrangements should be booked at least 48 hours in advance. For holiday packages and custom-made tours, we strongly recommend you book with a few weeks/months notice. For larger groups we recommend you book with a few months’ notice.

What kind of electrical plugs are used in Iceland?

Iceland uses Type F electrical outlets (European standard) with a standard voltage of 230V and frequency of 50Hz. Bring a plug adapter if your devices use a different plug type.
