Day 1: Arrival and Reykjavik

Welcome to Iceland! After arriving at Keflavík International Airport, you will be transported to your accommodation in Reykjavík. This will be by Flybus (budget category) or by our private driver (comfort/ quality category). Your travel documents will either be handed to you by your driver or wait for you at your accommodation. If you would like to indulge in some luxury, we can arrange for you a stop at the famous Blue Lagoon. After soaking in the milky blue waters of the lagoon, you will then head to your accommodation in Iceland‘s beautiful capital city. Afterward, enjoy a day in this charming city. Visit sights such as the Sun Voyager sculpture; the Harpa music and conference hall and the old harbor in Reykjavík. Furthermore, no visit is complete without a visit to Hallgrímkirkja, Reykjavík‘s landmark. You can take an elevator to the top and enjoy a spectacular view. We can also arrange for optional activities, such as a helicopter sightseeing tour; a Reykjavík walking tour or even a visit into a dead volcano chamber (summer only). In the evening, we recommend a cozy dinner in one of the city’s gourmet restaurants, to celebrate the start of your unforgettable Iceland and Greenland holiday. Overnight in Reykjavík.

Today, your Iceland and Greenland holiday start for real! In the morning, you will receive your rental car. Afterward, you are more than welcome to come to our Reykjavík office for an optional private information meeting. We love going over your travel plans with you and tell you about some more hidden gems. Next, it is time to hit the road and start exploring Iceland. Drive to Þingvellir National Park, one of the most spectacular and unique places here and thus a definite must-see. Because of its’ beauty and geological as well as historical value, Þingvellir was accepted as UNESCO World Heritage Site back in 2004. Þingvellir is the site where the Vikings first assembled in ancient times. Here, you can also see how the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are diverging. You can thus even go on an optional snorkeling or diving tour in the Silfra rift and snorkel or dive in between two continents. This will be one of the most unique experiences you have ever made. After exploring the wonders of Þingvellir, visit the Geysir geothermal fields and Gullfoss waterfall; to complete the so-called “Golden Circle”. In the afternoon, you can enjoy a relaxing soak in the Secret Lagoon and visit the crater Kerið, before driving to your accommodation for the night. It is located in the Hella/ Hvolsvöllur area.

Day 3: Sensational South Coast

Today, you will be exploring some of the highlights of the south coast of Iceland. This area has many spectacular sights and informative museums. Before going sightseeing, we thus highly recommend a visit to the LAVA Centre museum in Hvolsvöllur, one of our personal favorites. You can learn more about the volcanic activity in the area there. Afterward, your first stop will be Seljalandsfoss waterfall, famous for being one of the few waterfalls, you can walk behind. Close by, you will find its’ little brother Gljúfrabúi. Furthermore, you will go to Skógar, where you can visit the Skógar folk museum and witness the power of the mighty Skógafoss waterfall. Here, you can do optional activities such as snowmobiling on the glacier Mýrdalsjökull; glacier walking/ hiking or ice climbing on the glacier Sólheimajökull. You might also want to consider going on an ATV tour on the black sands of Sólheimasandur, it is so much fun! To end your day, we highly recommend a stroll on the Reynisfjara black sand beach. Be stunned by the beautiful Reynisdrangar basalt stacks, before visiting the charming town of Vík. You will stay the night in the Vík/ Kirkjubæjarklaustur area.

Day 4: Vatnajökull National Park and Glacier Lagoon

Today, it is time to visit Skaftafell, a wilderness area which is part of the Vatnajökull National Park. In Skaftafell, you will find many nice hiking trails, including one that leads you to the waterfall Svartifoss. The waterfall has pitch-black hexagonal basalt columns. Here, we can arrange for you to join an optional glacier hike or an ice climbing tour on the glacier Svínafellsjökull. After exploring the wonders of Skaftafell, continue to the Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon. On a clear day, you can enjoy fantastic views over the glacier. The floating icebergs will for sure take your breath away. To complete your day, make your way to the glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón. During summertime, you can enjoy an optional boat or kayaking tour and sail across the icebergs. Those who are interested in literature can visit the nearby Þórbergur Center. The cultural heritage museum features the life and works of the writer Þórbergur Þórðarsson. There are also many artifacts from his life, including a replica of the small house he grew up in. You will spend the night in the glacier lagoon/ Höfn area.

Day 5: Rugged Cliffs and Volcanic Beaches

It is time to say goodbye to Southeast Iceland and head back towards Reykjavík. If you would like to start your day with an adventure, we can arrange for you to join an optional puffin watching tour to Ingólfshöfði, a private nature reserve. If you have not already done so, you can also join the super jeep tour to the glacier Vatnajökull today. We highly recommend this tour. During your drive back to Reykjavík, you can visit some of the sights you may have missed on your way East; or explore areas such as the beautiful Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon. Make sure to stop at Dyrhólaey, a natural stone arch that stretches into the sea and is home to thousands of seabirds during the summer months. Upon arrival in Reykjavík, you will return your rental car and check into your accommodation.

Day 6: Flight to Ilulissat (Greenland) and Icefjord Boat Cruise

It is time for a change of scenery! You will fly to Greenland today and we are sure that this will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. In the morning, you will be transported to the domestic airport of Reykjavík, where you will board a three-hour flight to Ilulissat, a town that is located in western Greenland. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a representative from your accommodation, who will transfer you to your accommodation. In the afternoon, you can enjoy a walk through this charming and colorful town; watch the local huskies (Greenland dog); visit the Knud Rasmussen Museum, or simply relax and enjoy the view towards the Ilulissat Icefjord. Ilulissat is renowned for its beautiful and breathtaking Ice Fjord. In the evening, you will join an Icefjord boat cruise. The icebergs reach up to 100 meters above sea level. These large pieces of ice have broken off from Sermeq Kujalleq, the most productive glacier in the northern hemisphere.

Today, you will have a free day to enjoy Ilulissat and its’ surroundings. We can arrange for optional day tours, such as a boat cruise up to the glacier Eqi; a helicopter sightseeing flight; or a visit to a local village, just to name a few. You can also do some hiking on your own or join a guided city walk. In the evening, we recommend a nice local dinner at Hotel Arctic. Their gourmet cuisine is recognized as one of the best in the country. We encourage you to sample the Greenlandic dishes, but there will also be more familiar dishes. You will overnight at the same accommodation as the previous night.

Today, you will be heading back to Iceland, after what has most definitely been a phenomenal experience for you. In the morning, you still have some time to stroll around town and pick up some locally handcrafted souvenirs, before a hotel representative will take you to the local airport of Ilulissat. Upon arrival in Reykjavík (late afternoon/evening), you will be picked up at the airport and transported to your accommodations in the city center.

Today, you will have a free day in Reykjavík. So, relax after your tour! If you want to be like us Icelanders, we suggest a visit to one of our many geothermally heated swimming pools. Afterward, you can go on a little shopping spree. You will find many interesting shops with local handcrafts and designs on Laugavegur. There is also plenty of charming cafés. Furthermore, it is possible to do some more optional activities that will make for the perfect end of your Iceland and Greenland holiday, promise! If you are adventurous, we highly recommend a super jeep day tour to Landmannalaugar, in the Icelandic Highlands. If you wish to see Iceland from above, we can also arrange for an optional helicopter tour. What could be better? Furthermore, there is the option of going on a volcano and lava cave tour. This will be an unforgettable guided tour inside the volcano Þríhnúkagígur. We know the name is quite a mouthful, but so is the tour itself. Moreover, there is also always the option of going on a whale watching tour. The tour takes approximately three hours. If you are afraid of getting sea-sick, we recommend a visit to one of our many museums. We highly recommend the National Museum as well as the Reykjavík 871±2 Settlement Exhibition and we suggest dinner at a charming gourmet restaurant. Enjoy the last night of your Iceland and Greenland holiday and overnight at your accommodation in Reykjavík.

No. The Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are visible from late August to mid-April, primarily on clear, dark nights. They are most active in the winter months, away from city lights.

Yes. Visitors can drive in Iceland with a valid driver's license from their home country. If your license is not in Latin script, an international driving permit is recommended.
