About your day

You receive your rental car in the morning and you can visit the Family Park in the immense Laugardalur Park just outside the city center. One of its highlights are the wild and domesticated animal species found in Iceland such as sheep, arctic fox, rabbits, horses, cows, and pigs. The Family Park is a nonstop children’s entertainment with theme park rides, a trampoline and a scale model of a Viking ship. In Laugardalur Park, you will also find the beautiful botanical garden and one of the best pools in Reykjavik which we recommend to visit in the afternoon. It offers a large outdoor pool, various hot tubs, a steam bath and a twisting water slide that is sure to be a hit with the kids. Stay for a second night in your apartment in Reykjavik.

DRIVING DISTANCE
~ 223 km / 139 miles
About your day

Your journey to the country side of Iceland starts today. Start at Þingvellir National Park, where you can walk in the rift valley between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates! Þingvellir because of its beauty and its geological and historical value, was accepted as UNESCO’s heritage site in 2004. After exploring the treasures of the park, head south to see Geysir spouting spring and Gullfoss waterfall to complete the “Golden Circle”. If you are not too tired, we recommend stopping by at Slakki Park for a round of mini golf or to see the various species of farm animals. Stay the night in a family room in the area.

About your day

Take a drive along the south coast to the spectacular Skógar area where you‘ll find the very interesting Skógar Folk Museum with turf houses, an old fishing boat and a small lovely church. You might want to strap on your hiking shoes and hike on top of the amazingly beautiful Skógafoss Waterfall. The view above the south coast is simply breath-taking. Optional activities in the area are horseback riding or for the more adventurous a guided glacier hike on Sólheimajökull Glacier (minimum age 10 years). On your way back to your accommodation in the area of Selfoss you should check out the Seljalandsfoss Waterfall that you can walk behind.

Reykjavík
DRIVING DISTANCE
~ 189km / 118 miles
About your day

It‘s now time to head back to Reykjavik via the volcanic Reykjanes Peninsula. On your way you will visit Seltún, an interesting geothermal area. Seltún is one of the reasons why Iceland is a unique place to visit in the world. Enjoy bubbling mud pots, steam vents, and colourful mountains. Easy to navigate walkways let you get close enough for great pictures. In the afternoon your will visit the Blue Lagoon, set in an almost surreal black lava field. Relax in the warm water and have fun with the Silica Mud Mask you will find in a number of crates around the lagoon. Head back to Reykjavik where you will drop-off your rental car in the evening and overnight in an apartment in the city center.

Day 6: Free Day in Reykjavik

About your day

Enjoy a free day in the capital of Iceland. We recommend to visit Halgrimskirkja where you can enjoy the view over the city from the church tower. Have a look at the small and big boats at the harbour, visit the Coast Guard Vessel Óðinn which is part of the Marine Museum or join a boat tour to the small island Viðey. You should also visit the most famous ice cream shop of Reykjavik “Valdis” in the old harbour area with a huge selection. During summer time you can also join a sea angling tour which is fun for the whole family. The catch on this tour is guaranteed and you barbecue it directly on board. Stay for a second night in an apartment.
