On Flatey time literally stands still and it is like travelling back in time. Most of Flatey’s houses are from the 19th century and it is the ideal place for travellers who want to get a feeling of the old days. During your honeymoon in Iceland you cannot miss the famous golden circle and therefore you will visit today Þingvellir National Park, the Geyser geothermal area and the Gullfoss waterfall. The continental drift can be clearly seen in this area, so be sure to have a look into Silfra fissure. Next stop is the geothermally active valley of Haukadalur which contains the geysers ‘Geysir’ and ‘Strokkur’. While ‘Geysir’ has been inactive for a long time, ‘Strokkur’ erupts every 5 to 10 minutes and is a wonderful photo motif. In the afternoon you visit Gullfoss the golden waterfall. Gullfoss is Iceland´s most famous waterfall and definitely one of the natural wonders of the world. In the area are a couple of geothermal areas and we highly recommend the one in Flúðir, called the Secret Lagoon, which is actually the oldest geothermal pool in Iceland. Another one is Fontana Spa in Laugarvatn. Stay the night in the area.

Continue along the coastline to Grindavík village where you’ll find the Salt-fish Museum; a museum dedicated to the history of salt fish that in the late 19th century was to Iceland’s exporting industry what oil is to Saudi Arabia. Continue to the unique Blue Lagoon where you can stop to relax and unwind after a few days on the road in the warm milky blue waters.
