DRIVING DISTANCE
About your day

Your Faroe Islands tour begins by landing in Vágar airport, early in the afternoon. After picking up your rental car, you will explore the stunning Vágar region. Shortly after landing, you will admire the distinctive beauty of the Faroese Landscapes. Depending on the weather, you might want to drive to Eysturoy region, after leaving Vágar, the area around Gjógv village is definitely worth the detour. Eysturoy features numerous sights, excursions and picture-perfect spots. It is also home to the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands: Mt. Slættaratindur. In the afternoon you will drive towards the vibrant capital city, Tórshavn for a gourmet experience. A great location in town for scouting some good dining options is the harborfront Vágsbotnur, with idyllic old warehouses, cafés and modern restaurants. You will spend the night in the Capital.

Day 2: Tórshavn, cobbled streets and ocean views

About your day

After breakfast, explore the city of Tórshavn. Take a walk by the harbour and visit the picturesque lighthouse that offers a magnificent view over the city and the ocean. We highly recommend also a visit to the Old Town, home to dozens small, black-tarred wooden houses with grass roofs. People still call these 14th century houses their homes today. Stroll along charming narrow lanes and experience a wonderful mixture of old and new. In the afternoon you can explore the area of Kirkjubøur, the southernmost village of the Streymoy region. This is an absolute valuable addition to your itinerary. Kirkjubøur is one of the most significant historical sites in the Faroe Islands. Here you can visit the 900-year-old farmhouse/museum, the present Parish church, Ólavskirkja, and the medieval Magnus Cathedral, which has been the effective seat of power for several centuries. The views from this village are absolutely breathtaking. Head back to Tórshavn for dinner and overnight in the capital area.

Day 3: Day tour to Sandoy

About your day

Today you will drive to the harbour for your day-trip to Sandoy island. This is the flattest of the islands and boasts of nice, sandy beaches near the villages. The ferry ride takes only 30 minutes and as soon as you disembark you will be amazed by the tranquillity of your surroundings. Drive through the uninhabited Soltuvik Cove where the sights are breathtaking and timeless. The road to the eastern villages takes you to the high cliffs overlooking the bay and village of Sandur, then leads into the interior valley. Huge boulders are scattered in this splendid valley. In Húsavík, you can still see the medieval ruins of the farm that belonged to the mighty Dame of Húsavík. Leading up from Dalur village is a twisting trail into the mountains that guarantees fine vistas to the southern islands. Most appealing are the two “diamonds”, Stóra Dímun and Lítla Dímun. The Sandoy Tourist Office offers tours to Stóra Dímun with Hvíthamar. This is a truly unforgettable adventure. In the afternoon you will return by ferry to Tórshavn. ** It is also possible to stay overnight on the island of Sandoy for a unique experience.
