A private driver will be waiting for you at Keflavík International Airport to take you directly to your accommodation in Reykjavík. After settling in, you'll have the rest of the day free to explore Iceland's vibrant capital city at your own pace. The main street, Laugavegur, is home to countless coffee shops, bakeries, and boutiques where you can experience local Icelandic design and culture. Pay a visit to the magnificent Hallgrímskirkja Church and head up to the steeple for panoramic 360-degree views of the city center below. You could also walk to the nearby Rainbow Street, where you'll see a length of road painted in bright stripes of color. This street serves as a symbol of Iceland's progressive spirit as one of the world's most LGBTQ-friendly destinations. In the evening, try one of the city's famous food halls for dinner where you'll be spoiled for choice with fresh local ingredients and innovative Nordic cuisine. About your day

This morning, you'll be picked up from your accommodation to begin your Ring Road adventure. Your first stop is Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for both its stunning natural beauty and historical importance as the site of Iceland's ancient parliament. This is also where you can walk between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates in the dramatic rift valley. Next, you'll visit the great Geysir geothermal area featuring incredible spouting geysers and colorful hot springs. Watch as Strokkur geyser erupts every few minutes, shooting boiling water high into the air. Then it's on to Gullfoss, the "Golden Waterfall," where you'll witness a powerful cascade of water rushing down a multi-tiered canyon in one of Iceland's most impressive natural displays. Your journey continues along the scenic South Coast this afternoon. You'll have the chance to see famous waterfalls like Seljalandsfoss, where you can walk right behind the misty cascade on a unique footpath, and the gorgeous 60-meter high Skógafoss. You'll pass by the black sand beach of Reynisfjara before continuing to your accommodation in the Vík area, where dinner will be served. Overnight: Hótel Dyrhólaey or similar

Day 3: Glaciers and Icebergs

DRIVING DISTANCE
About your day

Today offers the chance to experience the actual ice of Iceland! You'll head to some of the country's most photogenic attractions, beginning with the beautiful Skaftafell area of Vatnajökull National Park, named for Iceland's largest glacier. You'll have time to explore this stunning area, surrounded by glacial tongues and dramatic mountain peaks. The highlight of the day is Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where you'll sail among floating icebergs on a guided amphibious boat tour. Drift between ancient ice sculptures in shades of brilliant blue and milky white while learning about glacial geology from your guide. This unforgettable experience brings you up close to icebergs that have calved from the glacier. Adjacent to the glacier lagoon, you'll visit Diamond Beach, where chunks of sparkling ice dot the black sand shore like diamonds, polished smooth by the ocean waves. After this dazzling experience, you'll stop for some homemade ice cream before driving along more of the majestic South Coast on the way to your accommodation, where dinner will be served. Overnight: Fosshótel Vatnajökull or similar

Day 4: East Fjords and Lake Mývatn

DRIVING DISTANCE
About your day

Today you'll journey along Iceland's spectacular eastern coast, characterized by dramatic fjords, tranquil fishing villages, and beautiful sweeping landscapes. This is one of the most scenic and least visited stretches of the Ring Road, offering a glimpse into rural Icelandic life. After reaching North Iceland, prepare to be amazed by the roaring Dettifoss, Europe's most powerful waterfall. There's a 1-kilometer walk along a gravel path from the parking lot to the waterfall, but the thundering display of raw natural power makes it absolutely worth the effort. Feel the ground shake as massive volumes of water plunge into the canyon below. You'll then make your way to the moon-like landscape of Lake Mývatn, today's destination. The scenery here is unlike anything you've seen before, with otherworldly lava formations and volcanic craters dotting the landscape. Make sure to capture photos of this unique area before enjoying dinner at your accommodation. Overnight: Fosshótel Mývatn or similar

About your day

Today, you'll have the chance to explore the volcanic landscape of Lake Mývatn more thoroughly. You'll spend the morning visiting extraordinary sights such as Námaskarð, with its Martian-like terrain of bubbling mud pots and steaming fumaroles, and Dimmuborgir, a magnificent lava landscape featuring extraordinary formations, columns, and caves that resemble a dark fortress. On the way to Skagafjörður, your guide will stop by the mighty Goðafoss, the "Waterfall of the Gods," one of Iceland's most beautiful and historically significant waterfalls. Continue to the charming town of Akureyri, the unofficial capital of North Iceland. Here you'll have the chance to enter the idyllic Forest Lagoon thermal baths, a geothermal oasis where you can relax in warm waters while surrounded by birch forest and mountain views. Your next stop is the tranquil farmlands of Skagafjörður, where you'll enjoy a final dinner with your fellow travelers at your countryside accommodation. Upon arrival back in the capital, the rest of the day is yours to spend as you wish. You could pay a visit to the magnificent Harpa Concert Hall with its distinctive glass facade, marvel at the Sun Voyager sculpture along the waterfront, or unwind at Laugardalslaug thermal pool, a favorite among locals. What makes this summer Ring Road tour different from winter tours?

Summer in Iceland (May through September) offers nearly 24 hours of daylight, allowing more time for exploration and photography. Roads are fully accessible, all hiking trails are open, and you'll see Iceland's landscapes in vibrant green with wildflowers blooming. The weather is milder, making outdoor activities more comfortable. This tour includes experiences like the Forest Lagoon and focuses on hiking and boat tours rather than ice caves and northern lights.

What is the group size for this tour?

This is a small group tour with a maximum of 16 people, providing a more intimate and personalized experience compared to large coach tours. Small groups allow for better interaction with your guide, more flexibility in the schedule, easier access to viewpoints and attractions, and a more social atmosphere where you can connect with fellow travelers who share your passion for adventure.

How much walking is involved on this tour?

This tour involves moderate walking at each attraction, typically on well-maintained paths and viewing platforms. The walk to Dettifoss is about 1 kilometer on a gravel path. Most stops involve short walks of 10-30 minutes. You should be comfortable walking on uneven terrain and able to get in and out of the vehicle multiple times per day. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended to fully enjoy all the experiences.

What should I pack for a summer Ring Road tour?

Even in summer, Iceland weather can be unpredictable. Pack layers including a waterproof jacket, warm fleece or wool mid-layers, comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots, a hat for sun protection, sunglasses, and sunscreen (the midnight sun is strong). Bring a swimsuit for the Forest Lagoon and any thermal pools you might visit. Don't forget your camera with extra memory cards and batteries.

Are meals included in the tour?

The tour includes continental breakfast every morning at your accommodation and four dinners at your hotels (Days 2, 3, 4, and 5). Lunches and dinners on Days 1, 6, and 7 are not included, giving you the flexibility to explore local restaurants and try different cuisines at your own pace. Your guide can recommend excellent dining options throughout the journey.
