Accommodation is the part of a tour people ask about most and get told least about. Every itinerary we build names the properties you would actually stay in, at the tier you choose, with an alternative if a room is not available. Here is what each tier gets you and how we decide.
You pick a tier when you book and it sets the standard for the trip, but it is not locked in for every night. If you would rather spend more on one stay and less on another, a Luxury room in Reykjavik and Classic out in the countryside, your Travel Consultant can move individual nights up or down. Outside Reykjavik the choice is often between one or two properties in a region, so the tier tells us which to hold rather than giving you a list to work through.

A sample of the properties that appear on our itineraries, with the reason we put people there. Availability moves, so every itinerary names a property and an alternative at the same tier. That is what 'or similar' means on your day-by-day plan.

A short walk from the centre of Reykjavik. Our Classic option in the city: simpler rooms than Saga, same easy access on foot.

Central Reykjavik, walking distance to Laugavegur and the harbour. Our usual Superior choice in the city when guests want to be able to leave the hotel and be somewhere on foot.

Out on the south coast away from town lighting, which is why we use it on Northern Lights itineraries. Positioned for an easy start east toward Vik the next morning.

On the old harbour next to Harpa. Our Luxury choice in Reykjavik, and the one we suggest when the hotel is meant to be part of the trip rather than just a bed.

In the centre of Húsavík, Iceland's whale watching town, used for two consecutive nights while exploring Lake Mývatn, Dettifoss and the Ásbyrgi canyons.

A country hotel set in the farmlands of Skagafjörður, reached after the Tröllaskagi peninsula and the herring town of Siglufjörður.
It means we hold the named hotel first. If it has no rooms on your dates, we book another property of the same tier in the same area and tell you before you travel.
Yes. The tier you pick sets the standard for the trip, and your Travel Consultant can move individual nights up or down. A common choice is Luxury in Reykjavik and Classic in the countryside.
Outside Reykjavik, many areas have only one or two properties that suit a tour. The tier tells us which one to hold, so you are not left sorting through a long list.
