Vatnshellir Lava Cave Iceland Tour on Snaefellsnes

In 1864 Jule Verne wrote the classic science fiction novel about the journey to the center of the Earth that started from the Icelandic volcano Snæfellsjökull. Do not miss your chance to go on your own adventurous tour to the interior of the Earth under the glacier Snæfellsjökull! This adventurous lava cave tour takes you 35 meters underground and about 200 meters into the lava cube Vatnshellir.

During the tour, you reach two different sections of the cave by staircases. The upper section has great features and unique formations of lava statues curved on the sides of the lava tube. In the lower part of the lava cave, you will experience total quietness and even total darkness when your guide switches off the light. The total duration of the lava cave tour is approximately 1 hour and can be easily integrated into your tour around the Snæfellsnes peninsula in the west of Iceland.
