A Wonderful Adventure from Above - Helicopter Ride Iceland

Seeing Iceland from above is indeed very special and unique: fly over glaciers and their crevasses, volcanos and their craters and lava fields, mountains and their birds and sheeps, make a stop or two and experience what remote really means and the peaceful silence that comes with it. Find yourself again, face the wild icelandic nature and take a break from the usual tourists tracks.
Recently, I had the privilege to join an unforgetable helicopter ride with one of our helicopter partners here in Reykjavik. I was supposed to join an Eyjafjallajökull volcano tour but due to bad weather, our guide improvised with a terrific itinerary in the newest helicopter in Iceland.

Be on top of a Glacier
This tour brought us to Langjökull Glacier, the second largest glacier in Iceland. On our way, we passed Esja, the famous mountain of Reykjavík with its impressive cliffs and birds nesting. Slightly further was Glymur waterfall, the second tallest waterfall in Iceland. Glymur is a perfect place to hike for nature lovers and a truly special gem. Seeing it from above was a very special moment. We made a stop directly on Langjökull glacier, talked and walked around. We could only hear the water running deep under the ice.
Fly over the famous Golden Circle
Once everyone was ready to go we headed to Þingvellir National Park, one of the highlights of the Golden Circle, the home of the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. The fissure from above is spectacularly detailed and impressive.

Be in the Middle of an impressive Geothermal Area
Our second stop was in Hengill, a geothermal area South of Þingvellir National Park. There we found boiling mud pools, fumes coming from the earth and colorful mountains. After a short walk to discover the area and take a compulsory souvenir picture, we headed back to Reykjavík Airport.

This tour was one of the greatest experiences in my life and the pilot Jean-Marie made it special by its kindness, attention to details and its rich informative conversations.
