Erpsstaðir Creamery
Erpsstaðir is a family-run dairy farm and creamery in the Dalir region of West Iceland, best known for its handmade ice cream, traditional skyr, and artisan cheeses, all produced from the milk of the farm's own herd. Founded in 2009 by farmer Þorgrímur Einar Guðbjartsson and his wife Helga, it has become one of the most popular farm stops in West Iceland and a genuine highlight for travellers between Reykjavik and the Westfjords.

A Working Farm Creamery Making Traditional Skyr and Ice Cream from Scratch
Erpsstaðir produces everything on site from the milk of their own dairy cows. The ice cream, sold under the brand name Kjaftæði (a playful Icelandic word roughly translating as Bullshit), is made primarily from cream and uses local, seasonal ingredients whenever possible. Flavours have included rhubarb, dandelion, elderflower, and blueberries from the Westfjords, alongside more familiar options. The farm also produces traditional Icelandic skyr, which has been a staple of the Icelandic diet since the country was settled in the 9th century. Unlike the mass-produced skyr now found in supermarkets across Europe, the skyr at Erpsstaðir is made in the old-fashioned way, thick and tangy, and sold directly from the farm. A small exhibition on site explains the history and cultural significance of skyr-making. The creamery received the Fjöreggið award in 2018 from the Icelandic Food and Nutrition Association for pioneering work in food tourism.
Visitors are welcome to drop in, browse the farm shop, taste the products, and see the animals. The farm is run as a genuine working operation rather than a tourist attraction, which gives it an authenticity that distinguishes it from more polished stops. Accommodation is available in the old farmhouse, which sleeps 6 to 10 guests and sits centrally in the west of Iceland, making it a useful base for exploring the Dalir region, the Westfjords, and the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The farm shop also stocks skyr chocolates, caraway cheese, and other dairy products not widely available elsewhere in Iceland.
Erpsstaðir is located on Route 60 in the Dalir region of West Iceland, the road that connects the Ring Road to the Westfjords, roughly equidistant between Borgarnes and Búðardalur. It is about two hours from Reykjavik. The farm shop is typically open from June to mid-September, daily from 1pm to 5pm. Outside the summer season the farm welcomes visitors when the family is home, and it is worth calling ahead. Check erpsstadir.is for current opening hours before visiting.
