About this activity

Ice Cave Tour Iceland – Close to Skaftafell

You meet your experienced guide in Fagurhólsmýri (right in the middle between Skaftafell and Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon) and you will drive in a 4x4 vehicle as close as possible to the ice cave. Please wear good hiking shoes since it might be necessary to walk quite a bit and often the ground is slippery or muddy. If you do not have good shoes you can rent them from the tour operator for a small extra fee.

The ice caves in Iceland are a natural phenomenon and in autumn each year our local partner looks for the ice caves for the winter. Normally there are different ice caves available and they differ in size, location, and accessibility. The best possible cave is chosen from day to day and it depends on the time of the winter, time of the day, weather, and other conditions where exactly you will go on your ice cave tour. Your guide will always choose the most interesting cave for you.

Inside the ice cave, you have enough time to explore the cave on your own and take remarkable pictures. We highly recommend bringing a tripod. The duration of the ice cave tour Iceland is between 2 and 4 hours. It depends on several things such as how far you have to drive, how far you have to walk, and also how difficult or easy the ice cave is. Please definitely wear good and warm outdoor clothing.
