Iceland Golden Circle Tour with Secret Lagoon

You get picked up from your accommodation in the morning and your first stop is at Þingvellir National Park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is situated on the continental rift that separates the European and American tectonic plates. You can walk in between the plates which are drifting apart at a rate of 2 centimeters per year.

Geysir and Gullfoss – The Famous Two on your Iceland Golden Circle Tour

Next stop is at the geothermally active valley of Haukadalur. This valley of hot springs and boiling mud pots is home to the record-holding "Geysir,". It originated the English word but nowadays it erupts only sporadically. But next to it you find a second geyser called Strokkur. It erupts about every 4 to 8 minutes and spouts water to a height of 15 – 20 m, sometimes even up to 40 m. Later you will visit Gullfoss, the so-called Golden Waterfall. Gullfoss is Iceland's most famous waterfall and definitely one of the natural wonders of the world.

The final highlight for today is a visit to the Secret Lagoon natural hot springs. The Secret Lagoon was made in 1891 and is the oldest swimming pool in Iceland. The locals call it secret because it was known only to them for a long time. The pool fell into oblivion when a modern swimming pool in a nearby town was opened in 1947. It has been recently been renovated and reopened and has been kept natural and unique so you can get the true Icelandic feeling.

We recommend to also follow the walking paths around the Secret Lagoon where you can have a closer look at several hot springs. There is even a tiny geyser that spouts water into the air every few minutes. After a nice hot bath, you head back to Reykjavík.
