About this activity

Skaftafell Glacier Hike

You will meet your glacier guide in Skaftafell and together you will embark on this unique experience. Hike on top of a glacier and learn all about the origins of this stunningly beautiful natural formation. This walk takes place in Svínajökull which is a glacier tongue of the great and majestic Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe. Your experienced and knowledgeable guide will accompany you through crevasses,  sumptuous ice labyrinths, and glacier mills. Surrounded and embraced by the grandiose glacier, you will feel the power and geological history behind these fascinating mass of ice and land.

You will spend approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes on the glacier, an easy walk that guarantees a truly astonishing adventure. Your English-speaking highly-qualified guide will share its knowledge with you. You will learn - among many other things - that you are walking on a living, moving glacier. Vatnajökull is, in fact, not a static mass of ice but an active, continuously changing, dynamic force of nature.

During your tour, you have the chance to see everything glaciers are best known for - interesting ice formations, crevasses, glacier mice, deep ice crevasses and often also ice-caves.  In addition, this glacier walk is suitable for the whole family (10 years or older) and lasts approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

This glacier walk is operated by one of our reliable partners.
