Westman Islands Boat Tour - Sightseeing Tour Around Heimaey

The Heimaey island is notable for its relatively recent volcanic eruption, which was totally unexpected, on January 23rd, 1973. Luckily, all the their ships were docked in by the harbor, and they were used to get the locals off the island. The sightseeing tour will start from this historic harbor. You will then set sail and comfortably drift around the beautiful archipelago. The tour takes about 1.5 hours and provides you with a very unique view of the Westman Islands.

Exploring the islands by boat is such a great way to enjoy the area’s wonderful nature and surroundings. Not only will you see the natural aspects of the islands with its lava coastline and deep bird cliffs, but also witness the wildlife that surrounds the area. If you are lucky, you might even spot a whale!

In this tour, you will also get to see the famed „elephant rock“, a spectacular natural rock formation that looks like an elephant. By the end of the tour, you will then voyage into a cave near the harbour, where you can hear unique acoustic sounds which some say resemble instrumental music.
