Furthermore, you can explore the pearls of the city such as the Hallgrímskirkja Church, the viewing deck of Perlan, the Solar Voyager sculpture and Harpa – Concert Hall and Conference Center. Last but not least, you can also visit the Aurora center by the harbor where you can learn more about the fascinating phenomenon of the Northern Lights. Stay for the first two nights in Reykjavik.

About your day

Today you will join your first guided tour around the famous Golden Circle area on a minibus. First, you will visit Þingvellir National Park, which is where the world’s first parliament was founded. This beautiful National Park is also one of the few sites in the world where you can observe two divergent tectonic plates on the surface. After leaving Þingvellir, you will visit the Geyser Geothermal Area. There, Geysir is no longer active, but nearby Strokkur keeps gushing up about every five to eight minutes to the gaze and amazes of its spectators. Next to the parking lot is a big souvenir shop and two restaurants. After you enjoyed one of Iceland´s most famous tourist attractions, you will only need 10 minutes to reach Gullfoss, the Golden Falls. Here you can read about how a farmer´s daughter saved the waterfalls from the hands of entrepreneurs who wanted to build a dam in the area. In addition to these stops, you will visit a few more other places (depending on the time of the year and the weather). In the late afternoon, you return to Reykjavik where you will spend another night.

Day 3: Sensational South Coast

About your day

For the next two days, you will visit the beautiful South of Iceland. Your guide picks you up in the morning for a special guided tour. Leave the city and pass the town of Hveragerði, a geothermal area with many green houses. First stop for the day is the waterfall Seljalandsfoss. It is possible to walk behind the waterfall and enjoy the beautiful scenery from there. The next stop is Skogafoss waterfall which cascades down around 65 meters. Your next stop will be the village of Vík where you will find the black sand beach with some picturesque basalt column formations. In the afternoon you will visit the famous glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón with huge floating icebergs broken from the great Vatnajökull glacier. After a day full of natural highlights, you arrive at your accommodation in the area and spend the night.

About your day

After breakfast, you will start your journey west towards Reykjavik. You have the chance to join a 40-minute boat ride among icebergs (optional, normally available between May and September). This boat tour gives you an opportunity to sail among huge icebergs, their shades of blue are worth taking a close look. After the boat tour, your one-hour long glacier hike starts and you will walk on a glacier in crampons (included in the tour package). Enjoy the fabulous view over the glacier and see interesting ice formations, glacier mice, and deep ice crevasses. On your way, you will see the giant lava field of Eldgjárhraun which was formed from a large lava flow. Close by are the Landbrotsholar Hills, one of the largest pseudo-crater areas in the world. Dependent on the weather and time you will make a short stop at Dyrhólaey, a small but majestic promontory at the southernmost point of the mainland. In the evening, you arrive back in Reykjavik where you will stay for the night.

Day 5: Lava Cave and Snorkeling Tour

About your day

Today, underground and underwater adventures await you! The tour starts early in the morning and your guide picks you up from your hotel/guesthouse. First, you will go inside a lava tube which is situated in a lava field close to Reykjavík. The access to the lava tube is relatively easy but inside the cave, you will walk and climb through space where lava once flowed. Your caving guide will teach you more about the lava flow and formation of the cave. Please note that the cave is very narrow in some places and you even need to crawl. After taking a lunch break, you will go snorkelling in Silfra. Visibility in Silfra is about 100 meters underwater, which is made possible by Iceland being so pure and clean. The water is crystal clear and the scenery is breathtaking. This is an otherworldly experience! Drift away between two tectonic plates where they are the closest to each other. Let yourself go on this relaxing water and enjoy the pure weightlessness. And welcome back to the reality! After your tour ends, your guide brings you back to Reykjavik. Note the following: Difficulty level is moderate. Age limit is 14 years old. Duration is ~ 9 hours.
