Iceland Off the Beaten Path: Glamping & Glacier Hiking
The tour starts on the camping site in Haukafell at 11:00 am, in the Vatnajökull National Park. It is known for its unique landscape features, created by the combined forces of rivers, glacial ice, and volcanic and geothermal activity. After meeting with the guide and the rest of the group, you will be briefed about the schedule and introduced to your cosy canvas tent. The tents are 16m2 in size and can fit up to 4 people. Gathering tents are also provided, where you will enjoy meetings, the barbecue, and evening gatherings.
Iceland Off the Beaten Path: Glamping & Glacier Hiking
Once everyone is ready, the guide will start introducing you to the glacier hike itinerary. It takes place on an outlet glacier called Fláajökull, where no other tours are run. A feeling of complete remoteness is therefore guaranteed! First, you will hike about 4km one way from the campsite to the tongue of the glacier. At its base, a small new glacier lagoon can be found. Here you will be provided with all the needed equipment, as well as briefed with the safety instructions. This guided tour is operated by one of our reliable partners.
No previous experience is needed - you will learn how to walk on a glacier from scratch. One of the main rules of this tour that everyone is a team player and works to gather to make things more joyful and safe. The total length of the hike is 12km with an approximate elevation gain of 450 meters.
After this unique glacier hike, you will hike back to the camping site, where you will have some time to rest and start preparing the barbecue night with the rest of the group. A lovely time, beautiful nature and amazing food are included in this tour.
Grab your backpack and your hiking shoes and come along with us on one of the most unforgettable experiences in Iceland!
