Iceland Hospitals and Pharmacies – In Case of Emergency

Iceland Hospitals and Pharmacies - In Case of Emergency
Although we wish all our guests wonderful weather and a worry-free vacation in Iceland sometimes small accidents or sickness can occur. Therefore we prepared this small guideline for your trip in Iceland.
All medical services such as hospitals, pharmacies, optical stores and medical shops are available so you do not have to worry during a vacation in Reykjavík. In the countryside, the situation is a little bit different since the population is very low in comparison to other countries. Therefore the distance to the next hospital or pharmacy might be a little bit longer.
If you require the assistance of the emergency services call 112 to reach the police, the fire department, and rescue teams. Cellphone coverage spans most of the ring road, although there are small areas where getting coverage is difficult, usually moving to higher ground will do the trick. Before contacting emergency services please ensure the safety of the scene of the accident to avoid further accidents from oncoming traffic.
If you or any of your loved ones need to go to the emergency room, please prepare important information for emergency personnel. You can keep this on your phone registered under the name ICE – In Case of Emergency or alternatively on a USB thumb drive in your wallet or purse.
Information on safe driving in Iceland can be found in this brochure.
